2010 Bonsai Activity

Dai Ichi Bonsai Kai Annual Show

The annual bonsai show at the Ken Nakaoka Community Center was held in the first week of May, 2010, as usual.

I prepared five trees for the show (left to right), my show tree, a triple trunk juniper,
a gift from Bill Johnson many years ago; a black pine for the sale; a black pine for
the sale; Andrea's Chinese elm, the show flyer tree, for the sale; and a Jim Tatsukawa
blackpine forest, for the sale, priced at $400.

Harry Hirao's serpentine California juniper had the place of honor in the tokonomo.

A Japanese folk music group provided entertainment at the show reception.

The entertainment included dancing.

More music.

The players were quite good.

And excellent singing too.

Dai Ichi Bonsai Kai Annual Auction

I donated the bulk of my bonsai collection to the annual auction held October 15, 2010.

This cascade California Juniper was dug by Bill Johnson.

The collection filled 15 tables.

Here I am with some of the bonsai.

All kinds and sizes, some in growing pots, some in bonsai pots.

Still more of the collection ready for auction.

And another view.

Joe James was our able auctioneer once again, here with my California Junper that he dug himself
in 1998.

Here Joe auctions a large California Juniper dug by Bill Johnson.
